This GP38-2 Diesel Engine accurately reproduces a common sight in the Long Island, New York area. As seen on the rails of the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR), the prototype for this K-LINE® Geep has logged millions of miles in daily service over the non-electrical portions of the railroad. Since 1976 the GP38-2 Engine has been an integral part of the LIRR’s fleet of diesels.

The LIRR’s 28 Geeps (Nos. 250-277) have been used in all types of service on the LIRR, and have demonstrated outstanding reliability. The LIRR's GP38-2s carry name plaques that dedicate each engine to distinguished LIRR employees.

GP38-2 Engine #256 is dedicated to former LIRR president, Francis S. Gabreski. Gabreski, who served in both WWII and the Korean War, is responsible for the LIRR fleet adopting the patriotic colors of red, white and blue. The American flag graphic with the 5-star pentagon and the legend 'We Serve With Pride' was applied to all of the LIRR’s locomotive and passenger cars as Gabreski’s tribute to his fellow employees.
