Entering service in 1971, Amtrak began operations with a rainbow of rolling stock iinherited from existing railroads. The best of this rag-tag fleet were reshopped and repainted in Amtrak’s newly-designed paint scheme, and became known as the “Heritage Fleet” once these original cars were replaced in 1988.
