The Texas Special, which was operated jointly by the MKT and the Frisco, completed its transformation from steam to diesel in 1948 when the new diesels were joined with a fleet of streamlined aluminum cars. Our scale extruded aluminum cars are full of names that evoke the heroic history of Texas ? Sam Houston, Davy Crockett, Jim Bowie. And they feature StreamLighting overhead lighting, detail interiors, and prototypical exterior decoration and detail.

Our diesels proudly wear the Texas Special colors of red and silver, and include the heralds of both railroads, the distinctive Texas Special script, the yellow hood and pilot striping. And our F3s have all the scale details your have come to expect of K-LINE: metal pilots with air hoses, separate handrails, wipers and brake hoses, and pivoting cloth diaphragms. There also an optional scale pilot and coupler set with each AA unit. And with Lionel Command Control and RailSounds, Cruise Control to maintain constant speed, electrocouplers and an operating smoke unit, they run as magnificently as they look.

The MKT partnership with the Frisco was dissolved in 1959 and by 1964 passenger service had ended, but the spirit of The Texas Special lives on in this beautiful 1:48 scale train.
